Serving North Georgia
Community Engagement & Patriotic Service
The Robert Forsyth Chapter is an active presence in the Cumming and Forsyth County community — from flag retirement ceremonies to veterans honors, civic parades to award presentations. We don’t just preserve history; we live it.

How We Serve
Activity 1
Veterans Recognition & Service
We honor veterans of all eras through ceremonies, awards, and acts of service. Our members believe that the spirit of the patriots who founded this nation lives on in every man and woman who has served under the American flag.
Activity 2
Flag Respect & Retirement Ceremonies
When an American flag becomes worn, tattered, or faded, it deserves to be retired with the same dignity with which it was flown. The Robert Forsyth Chapter collects old and weathered flags and conducts formal Flag Retirement Ceremonies in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code. Community members may bring worn flags to our chapter for proper retirement.
Activity 3
Wreath Laying & Grave Marking Ceremonies
Our chapter participates in solemn wreath-laying ceremonies and grave marking events to honor Revolutionary War patriots and veterans buried in Georgia. We work with local historical societies and cemeteries to ensure these patriots are never forgotten.
Activity 4
Parades & Civic Ceremonies
Chapter members participate in parades, patriotic ceremonies, and civic events throughout Forsyth County and beyond — dressed in period-appropriate Patriot Guard uniforms that represent the Continental Army and the spirit of 1776.
Activity 5
America250 Commemoration
As America approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, the Robert Forsyth Chapter is actively participating in America250 events across Georgia and the Southeast — commemorating the founding of the United States and the patriots who made it possible.
U.S. Flag Retirement: The Dignified Process
The U.S. Flag Code specifies that a worn flag “should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” Our chapter conducts formal retirement ceremonies that honor the flag with the solemnity it deserves.
Flag Disposal Locations
The chapter has placed flag receptacle boxes, collecting flags year-round, at these locations:
Annual Flag Retirement Ceremony: the weekend near Flag Day, June 14, at 9:00 a.m. at Ingram Funeral Home. All are welcome and may bring flags in need of retirement.
The Marshal Fund
The Marshal Fund
Named in honor of Robert Forsyth — America’s first fallen federal marshal — the Marshal Fund supports both chapter activities and meaningful causes in the Forsyth County community.
Supporters can purchase a Marshal Pin ($50) to contribute to the fund. Proceeds support education programs, community events, veterans services, and other initiatives selected by the chapter.
Patriot Guard
The Well-Dressed Guardsman
The Well-Dressed Guardsman is the Robert Forsyth Chapter’s guide to authentic period uniform and equipment for SAR members who participate in ceremonies and public events in the role of the Patriot Guard.
Whether you are new to the Patriot Guard or a seasoned veteran of ceremonies, this resource will help you represent the Continental soldier with accuracy and dignity.
